Australia’s IT Sector Set to Boom

Jobs are on the rise and in a report titled, Australia’s Digital Pulse 2019, commissioned by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), they noted they predict an estimated 100,000 new IT roles will be created by 2024, thus bringing the total to roughly 792,000.

By simply changing industries and reskilling to enter the IT industry, some Australians may well receive a significant salary increase. An example salary for IT graduates entering a consultancy position in Australia averages out to be AU$84,39287,190 per year (Payscale, 2020).

In a recent Griffith University panel, Australian Computer Society (ACS) Queensland, State Manager, Holly Bretherton, said,

“Technology is on track to drive $65 billion worth of economic growth by 2024… We need professionals who can understand the risks associated with working remotely, how you can protect the data and how you can assist in driving policy development to ensure Australian information and data is kept secure.”

The only problem Australia is facing with this boom is the lack of workers! With hiring on the rise, the growing IT sector needs more skilled workers to fill these positions.

New research from LinkedIn states that despite the ongoing pandemic and market crash, the hiring rate for Software and IT Services has increased by 17.3 per cent. This is the biggest recruitment surge for this year.
