Aged Care Employee Day #thanksforcaring
#Thanksforcaring
Aged Care Employee Day (ACED) is an annual day of recognition where we give thanks, acknowledge and celebrate more than 360,000 aged care workers around Australia.
ACED’s theme #thanksforcaring recognises Australia’s aged care workers that cater to 1.3 million older Australians.
Leading Age Services Australia’s (LASA) CEO, Sean Rooney, said, ““On this day we celebrate the pinnacle of caring that we see each and every day. We salute them because they all play vital roles – from nurses, personal care workers and allied health professionals, to chefs, cleaners, gardeners, managers and volunteers.”
At the Sarina Russo Institute (SRI), ACED is a very important day to us and one we love to celebrate. A large portion of our student cohort are studying to become aged care professionals and are currently undertaking work placements in aged care facilities.
One of our SRI students, Nikki Paulo, who is studying a CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing, Disability) believes working in aged care can be challenging at times but overall is one of the most rewarding careers. “Working in aged care is a challenging job for me because I encounter lots of diverse older people with different needs and preferences but working with them gives me satisfaction. It is rewarding knowing that my job has a positive impact and enhances the lives of others”.
In the month of July, our Career Progression Specialist team, Joblinx, assisted 50 SRI students in securing vocational work placement at aged care centres around Australia. Joblinx is a free service offered to SRI students, that helps them with employment support, Work Experience and Internship opportunities as well as offering one on one consultation, training and workshops to enhance their career development and employment prospects.
SRI student, Alex Serviano who is a student at Sarina Russo Institute said, “I’ve been in the industry for a long time, this is my 2nd year working as a carer in one of the aged care facilities here in Brisbane. I’ve always loved doing what I do. Just the joy you can put on someone’s face and making sure their happy in the services you provide. This Friday I look forward to celebrating Aged Care Employee Day with my peers and friends”.
Please join us as we give thanks to the aged care superheroes who work tirelessly to support our elderly community. Australian’s are invited to use the hashtag #Thanksforcaring on social media to share their positive experiences and celebrate our local superheros.
